Gift of Wine
The You can't go wrong giving wine as a gift to a wine enthusiast. Lucky is the recipient of his or her favorite wine. Almost any occasion warrants the gift from the vine: birthdays, parties, holidays, and as a token of your appreciation—a thank you gift. It only takes a little imagination to make your gift stand out when yours is one among a sea of wine gifts.

The allure of gifts is the anticipation; the thrill is in the surprise that waits beneath the gift-wrap. The packaging not only hides the surprise, but a creative presentation adds to the curiosity and delight of the recipient.

Presenting Your Gift of Wine

There's no reason to settle for a paper gift bag when giving wine. You'll find plenty of variety in gift bags for wine, but you can go even further than a beautiful paper gift bag. Some of the suggestions include surprises once the gift is opened. It's always more fun to open a gift expecting one thing and finding something extra enclosed.
  1. Instead of a paper gift bag, package your wine in a cloth gift bag: satin, crushed velvet, liquid metallic fabric, a gift bag with gold braid ties, a printed, speckled or bejeweled gift bag. For Christmas, you can find Santa, elf, and reindeer gift bags—the variety is endless. Your recipient can display the empty bottle in the cloth bag or use the bag for storage after the wine is long gone. An empty wine bottle in a Santa bag adds a Christmas decoration to a bookcase.
  2. Slip a wine accessory under the tie on a cloth gift bag. Pourers and stoppers are useful and welcome wine accessories, and one can never have too many of either.
  3. For an additional surprise after opening the wine, place a wine charm on the neck of the wine bottle. Wine charms are like charm necklaces for the wine bottle. They sit at the base of the neck of the bottle and usually display multiple charms. You can find charms to commemorate any occasion, and charms cover almost every imaginable theme. Pick something appropriate for the occasion, or perhaps something humorous that you and your recipient share as a private joke.
  4. If you've discovered a new wine that complements a particular dish, print a recipe-sized card with serving suggestions, and string it through a wine charm.
  5. Wine bottles include one label on the front of the bottle. That leaves the back of the bottle for you and your imagination. Design a label on your computer, and print it on your color printer. Why limit yourself to printing something just for the occasion? This is the perfect opportunity for humor. You might parody the actual wine label on the front.
Perhaps your recipient grows award-winning roses. Print a label that says, "From the Garden of Jane Doe" along with a beautiful rose illustration or a blue ribbon. Imagine displaying your pride and joy from the garden in a bottle specifically created to honor your achievements! If you print a label for the back of the bottle, turn the bottle around so that the back is revealed when your friend opens the package. For a little of your time and the cost of a label and some ink, you can give two gifts instead of one.
